I’ve noticed ALOT lately while meeting new people and catching up with old friends here in Bali, along with building my website (finally), that the questions are tempting to choose to put myself in a box.
What do you do?
What are you about?
How do you spend your days?
Sometimes in order to define who we are, we start putting ourselves into little boxes. VOLUNTARILY.
“I am a ___________ by profession blah blah blaaaah!”
The same ones that we spent years trying to escape.
And now, trying to rewire.
It gives us relief to have an identity. By placing ourself back in a box.
To know ourselves with certainty.
That way we present in a nice tidy bow and we can say with confidence – what we are not.
So while you’re trying to figure out who you are, embrace that you are perfectly imperfect and if you wanna be all of it … not some of it, then be all of it.
Why not be Full of It?!
For instance, I *know* I’m a total, hot melting pot of contradiction!
I work hard, and I play hard.
Known to bring sunshine and a little hurricane too.
I can be d e a d l y serious… then switch – Funny as Fuck!
I AM a high achiever … and I have afternoon siestas
I AM a nerd … and I am a little bit gangsta
I AM a lover … and I am a warrior
I AM me, and growing into someone else
You see… a hot mess of contradiction.
Contradictions aren’t the enemy. Opposing forces don’t create conflict. They create e.qui.li.bri.um.
The same thing you’re viewing as an identity crisis – a tribe is following you!
The real question is not whether you should be one or the other.
The real question is whether you will have the courage and pride to be ‘all’ of you
